Description

PHEASANT- Pheasants are birds of several genera within the subfamily Phasianinae, of the family Phasianidae in the order Galliformes. The family’s native range is restricted to Asia.  The best-known is the common pheasant, which is widespread throughout the world in introduced feral populations and in farm operations.  Pheasants spend almost their entire life on the ground, rarely ever being seen in trees. They eat a wide variety of foods including, insects, seeds, and leaves.  While pheasants are able to fly fast for short distances, they prefer to run. Pheasants have been in the United States for more than 200 years.  Rarely, if ever, does a pheasant die of old age. In fact, the average life span is less than 1 year.
