HIPPO- From the ancient Greek word for “water horse” The Hippopotamus is one of Africa’s largest and most dangerous animals. While similar in appearance to pigs and other large land mammals, the closest relative to Hippos are actually whales and porpoises. Males Hippos have weighed in as much as 9000lbs/4500kg! Hippos are very social and live in large groups called appropriately enough: “bloats”.
