Description

The Cape Eland (Taurotragus oryx) is the largest antelope species in Africa, known for its massive body, distinctive spiral horns, and soft dewlap under the throat. Despite their size, elands are surprisingly agile and capable of leaping over 8 feet from a standing position.

This expertly preserved shoulder mount captures the elegance and stature of a mature male eland with SCI Gold Record status, scoring 124 6/8. The animal is slightly turned left, giving dynamic posture and adding depth to the display.

Cape elands inhabit savannas, open woodlands, and grasslands across Southern and Eastern Africa. They are herbivores, feeding primarily on grasses, leaves, and branches, and are valued for their calm nature and impressive size in wildlife and hunting records.
