Description
The roan antelope (Hippotragus equinus) is among Africa’s largest grazing antelopes, named for its reddish-gray coloring. These powerful animals are native to open grasslands and lightly wooded savannas across much of sub-Saharan Africa. Known for their long, ringed horns and striking facial markings, roans often live in small herds and are fiercely territorial. They feed mainly on mid-height grasses and rely on water sources nearby.
