Description

The Nile lechwe (Kobus megaceros) is a semiaquatic antelope native to the swamps and floodplains of South Sudan and western Ethiopia. Well adapted to wetlands, it is an excellent swimmer and feeds on aquatic plants and grasses. Nile lechwes are known for their long, spiral horns and distinctive markings. Due to habitat degradation and civil unrest in their range, they are listed as Endangered by the IUCN. Conservation efforts focus on preserving protected floodplain habitats and monitoring wild populations.
