Description

The Mongolian gazelle (Procapra gutturosa) is native to the open grasslands of Mongolia and parts of China and Russia. It is best known for its role in one of the largest terrestrial migrations, rivaling that of African wildebeest. These antelopes are highly adapted to extreme climates, surviving bitter winters and dry summers in vast steppe ecosystems. Their pale coats offer camouflage in arid terrain, and their social behavior includes forming massive herds for protection and mobility.

  • Range: Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, and southeastern Russia

  • Habitat: Dry steppes and semi-arid grasslands
