Description

The lechwe (Kobus leche) is a semi-aquatic antelope found in marshes, floodplains, and wetlands across southern Africa. Adapted to swampy terrain, it has elongated hind legs and a water-resistant coat, allowing it to move effortlessly through water and tall grasses. Lechwes are known for their large herds and are most active during early morning and late afternoon, grazing on aquatic plants and grasses. Their spiraled horns and rich chestnut or golden coloring make them a prized species in both natural history collections and educational displays.
